Who should attend: those who are part of the LGBTQ+ community who want practical advice about what it’s like to start a family; others who want to support LGBTQ+ people who want to start a family, particularly managers

Purpose: The purpose of the roundtable is to provide practical knowledge and advice from those who are part of the LGBTQ+ community and have started families.

Summary: This roundtable will be a facilitated but relatively informal conversation with three parents who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community. They will openly share about their journey to becoming a parent, providing insight and practical advice to those who may be considering doing the same. Whether you are starting to think about becoming a parent, have already started the journey yourself or want to support someone who is considering or is starting a family, expect to gain awareness and understanding of what to expect.

Expected outcomes:

  • Gain insight into different experiences of starting a family as LGBTQ+ people through the ‘lived experience’ story telling of panel members.

  • Gain practical advice about how to start a family as an LGBTQ+ person with insights into the ups and downs, considerations required and practical steps you may need to take.

  • Better understand how to support LGBTQ+ colleagues/direct reports who may be going through the process to start a family.
